Scotland Pt 4- York! (still not in Scotland)

What an amazing city. York is full of history, foods, entertainment, and anything else you may want. In this video we explore the central and some of the oldest parts of the city. Starting in the Shambles market area, these buildings were built specifically as an open-air slaughterhouse and meat market in the 13th century. These buildings were beautiful and still being used as shops today. With the road width perfected for the carts of the time period, it is a sight worth the visit. St Mary's Abbey was another great sight. This building was constructed in the 11th century in the old roman part of town. It was a part of the reformation of the church by Henry the VIII in 1088. Other notable areas were portions of a medieval gatehouse and the city walls. There has been a gate at that exact location now for over 2,000 years!! Finally, for this video, we walked around the gigantic York Minster. This location is a short walk from the St Mary's Abbey but was constructed close to the same time (1080s). But this was not the first on this site. Sometime before 627 a wooden church was built there.
