What It Means to Be a Christian Homemaker

Hello my loves! I''m so glad you're here :) Join me on this winter's day as I share my thoughts on the true meaning of homemaking and how it goes beyond a collection of "wholesome" activities and aesthetics (although they are valuable!). But as Christians, homemaking must be rooted in our fundamental purpose to love God and others. It's about being ambassadors of the mighty King, showcasing sacrificial love in the care we provide for our families and homes. I recently finished reading “Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott— a book that I would recommend anyone read if they want to learn how to love working hard. Here is an excerpt that beautifully captures what I believe God’s purpose is for us as homemakers, working cheerfully for others and their happiness and finding great contentment in such. “Jo had got so far, she was learning to do her duty, and to feel unhappy if she did not, but to do it cheerfully, ah, that was another thing! She had often said she wanted to do something splendid, no matter how hard, and now she had her wish, for what could be more beautiful than to devote her life to Father and Mother, trying to make home as happy to them as they had to her? And if difficulties were necessary to increase the splendor of the effort, what could be harder for a restless, ambitious girl than to give up her own hopes, plans, and desires, and cheerfully live for others?” Excerpt from Chapter 42 of Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. Love & blessings, - Jem ♡ ❖ TUTORIALS❖ ∙ Bleaching Curtains ∙ These curtains had mould stains, so I sprayed them with a mixture of 1 part bleach and 4 parts water and let it sit for 5 minutes, did a rinse cycle in the wash, then washed on a cold cycle and let air dry. ∙ Sourdough Tortillas ∙ I love this recipe from Milk and Pop :) https://milkandpop.com/the-best-sourd... You can use discard or fresh sourdough, and I sometimes replace some of the flour with wholemeal flour :) Here's the quick instructions: Combine: - 1/2 cup sourdough starter - 1/3 cup water (doesn't need to be filtered) - 1/4 oil (I use olive or rice-bran) - between 1 and 1 2/3 cups all-purpose or bread flour (can substitute some of this for wholemeal). Amount of flour will differ depending on sourdough consistency and humidity levels) - 1/2 teaspoon table salt or 1 teaspoon kosher. Bring together until fully combined (don't need to knead). Let rise for at least 30 mins or up to 16 hours (will taste more tangy the longer you leave it). Divide into 6-8 balls, roll out as thin as possible. Use minimal flour on rolling surface as sticking to the bench actually helps it stretch out. If having trouble rolling, let the balls rest for a bit to relax the gluten. Cook over medium high heat for ~ 90 seconds per side. Place on plate under tea towel to finish steaming. Enjoy :) ∙ Lampshade tutorial ∙ https://www.farmhouseonboone.com/easy... I didn't trim the segments like instructed, so needed to do the extra hand sewing step :) ∙ Dinner ∙ Saute half and onion in some butter and oil until translucent and slightly golden (5 mins). Add minced garlic, saute for 1 min until fragrant. Add any curry spice blend (the ones that come in oil are better as most flavour compounds in spices are fat soluble) and saute for about a minute (don't let it burn). Then add a good squirt of tomato paste (up to 1/4 of a cup) and saute for a minute. Add 1 can (400 mL) of coconut cream, stir to combine, then reduce over a low heat. Add any additional spices if you think it's missing anything. Add cooked chicken of choice (I used left-over chicken breast from a roast we had). Cook for a couple of minutes until chicken is hot, then add salt at the end to your preference. Serve with rice and sourdough tortilla-garlic naan, plus vegetables of preference (we usually do garlic broccoli or frozen green beans). Enjoy :) ❖ MUSIC❖ ∙ Northwestern ∙ Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/northwestern/whe...
