After some more tweaking I've improved my standard mod on the Boss DS1 Distortion and brought out some more mids and low end that was missing. With the Fat switch engaged, you get a volume boost and a boost in the mids and low end, while smoothing out the ratty and thin distortion on the stock DS1. With the Fat switch off, you get more more presence and high end coming through, but it still retains a smoothness that's just not present in the standard version. The great thing about this mod is that this pedal is now versatile enough to do blues, rock, funk and sounds very amp/tube like in my opinion, and cleans up well with the guitar's volume rolled back. Gone are the 'thin and fizzies' of the stock DS1. I will do some more videos comparing the 2 pedals and you will see (and hear) the difference...its huge! I'm running the pedal directly through the front end of my amp (Bad Cat Cub IIR) through a Fender Strat (Eric Johnson model) and a LTD PB-500 (with stock Seymour Duncan Alnico 2's which sound great). Recorded via an Audio Technica AT4040 condenser a foot away from the cab, straight into GB. No additional signal processing on the guitar other than a bit of reverb from the amp itself. Pedal Settings (Strat): Fat Switch engaged, Tone at 9, level at 11, Drive at 2 Pedal Settings (LTD): Fat Switch engaged, Tone at 9, level at 9, Drive at 5 (max) For any enquiries on purchasing this mod, please contact me at [email protected] Cheers, and thanks for watching!
