'Bulleid Pacifics of the Mainline' | 'Archive Atlas' Episode VIII

This week, we dive back into the Archives once again and take a look at some highlights of the mainline active Bulleid Pacifics of the last five years or so. O.V.S.Bulleid designed his Pacific varients back in the 1940's, initially to the 'Air Smoothed' streamlined look with chaindriven valve gear. Two types of engine were built, the 'Merchant Navies' (classified 8P) and the 'Light Pacifics' (classified 7mt) with the later having two sun classes of 'West Contry' and 'Battle of Britain'. The class provided top-link express power on the southern region right up to the end of steam in 1967, and 31 of a total 200 that were built have made it into preservation. Over recent years, the examples of the class that have been lucky enough to gain a second carer on the mainline have produced some amazing specticles for enthusiasts & public alike to enjoy, in this Episode of 'Archive Atlas' we shall take a look at the members of the class I have managed to capture on their various work up and down the country on the mainline network. Locomotives included are: Merchant Navy 35018 'British India Line' Merchant Navy 35038 'Clan Line' West Country 34046 'Braunton'/Battle of Britain 34052 'Lord Dowding' -Battle of Britain 34067 'Tangmere' Hope you enjoy!
