Abandoned sidings rebuilt - Freetown, MA - 8/2022

As part of the South Coast Rail Project two turnouts leading to two unused, "abandoned", sidings were replaced along with a couple hundred feet of the lead track into the customers. The two tracks were likely last used in the 70's or 80's and are staying connected to the mainline for potential future use. The sidings go into "Algonquin Gas" and "Ashland Specialty". Algonquin no longer occupies the property that the track goes into but it is possible another industry could use the track in the future. The other siding, "Ashland Specialty Ingredients", is an active industry and could potentially get rail service in the future. This video shows the siding switches in 2014 then the recent rebuild of the tracks during August 2022. More updates will follow in the future as trackwork progresses.
