Time for another forgotten game from a forgettable season (at RetroSkins, it's what we love!). We go back again to 1998, this time for the Redskins and the Raiders from a rainy Oakland Coliseum. The Redskins were a lamentable 2-9 going into this one, still scraping themselves up from an 0-7 faceplant. Meanwhile, the Raiders were 7-4 with playoff aspirations. Oakland started Dan Snyder's boyfriend, Jeff George, who was so brilliant he watched the second half from the bench. Meanwhile, Brian Mitchell was an absolute beast, with 150+ return yards in first half easing the Redskins path to a 17-7 halftime lead. That lead swelled to 26-7 before the Raiders managed a couple of too-little-too-late TDs to narrow the final score. This was the first of four straight wins for Washington, kicking off a resurgence that would extend into the much more successful '99 season. This game was also a turning point in the Redskins-Raiders series. Going in, Oakland was 7-2 all-time vs Washington. But starting with this win, Washington kicked off a 5-1 streak vs the Raiders, including 4 straight on the road (the most recent in the '21 season in (ugh) Vegas). Kenny Albert and Tim Green on the call from stormy and soggy Oakland for the first ever Redskins road win against the Raiders.
