Major Mukund Varadharajan was a courageous officer of the Indian Army, known for his exemplary bravery and dedication. Born in Tamil Nadu, he joined the Indian Army with a deep sense of duty and love for his country. In April 2014, while serving in the elite 44 Rashtriya Rifles in Kashmir, he led an operation against terrorists in Shopian. Despite knowing the risks, he showed unmatched valor, engaging in fierce combat to protect his team and accomplish the mission. Tragically, he was fatally injured but ensured his men were safe and the mission was a success. For his heroic sacrifice, Major Mukund was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime gallantry award.
