Some of Us Out of All of Us | Gunjana Kharbanda | TEDxTDV

Let me start by saying how important we human beings are. Or are we that important? I started thinking about such things during my later years of architecture. Before that, I was listening to what people around me were thinking. I started caring way too much about everything that I was doing. Caring about how anything I do is affecting my or someone else’s life, even if it didn’t, I enjoyed thinking that my actions are creating a stir, good or bad was immaterial. And if I was unable to make a stir in the outside world I used to make sure that the stir was still present in mine. Now guess what is the recent stir I’ve created in my life? To become a multidisciplinary designer. It's a pretty cool term we've coined for those who quickly grow weary of the idea of sticking to just one thing for their entire lives. And honestly, I can't blame us for shifting our mindset in this direction. With the kind of complex situations life throws at us these days, we are becoming a multidisciplinary “liver” unknowingly. SOME OF US are always on the lookout for that stir. As soon as we recognize that stir we start to identify ourselves as change-makers. Like “I did something and 10 things around me changed”. Now these were some references from a much simpler time. Imagine doing 1 thing and 10 things around it changed, okay now imagine doing 10 things and 100 things around you changed. That is what a multidisciplinary designer is trained for or aspires to do. We were bored of the stir and now we want a tsunami. Gunjana Kharbanda is a boundary-pushing multidisciplinary designer on a quest to explore every facet of creativity before declaring her true calling. With a Bachelor's degree in architecture and a Master's in Graphics and Communication, she embodies versatility and innovation in her approach to design. Currently working for a textile brand called The Shop, for her, the intersection of design disciplines is not a limitation but a source of boundless inspiration. In a world where specialization is often prized above all else, she stands as a testament to the power of diversity. She firmly believes that being proficient in multiple domains is not just beneficial but essential in today's era of rapid change and innovation. With every experience, she inches closer to finding her true calling, but until then, she will continue to embrace the joy of exploration and the thrill of the unknown. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
