Talking Life | Javed Akhtar and Nasreen Munni Kabir in conversation with Sanjoy K. Roy Celebrated screenplay writer, lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar and filmmaker Nasreen Munni Kabir's latest book, Talking Life, is the final edition in the trilogy Talking Films and Talking Songs. The book features an intimate conversation rooted in childhood pleasures, youthful rebellions and mature relationships. The engaging narrative weaves together Javed Saab's enduring link with films, poetry, lyric, theatre and beyond. The book will be unveiled at the end of this session. Presented by Dainik Bhaskar Javed Akhtar is a renowned poet, writer, activist and lyricist with five National Awards and fifteen Filmfare Awards to his credit. He has been awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award, Padma Bhushan Award, Padma Shri Award, The Poet Laureate Award, the Indira Gandhi Award and Lifetime Achievement Award by Times Litfest. His collection of poetry, Tarkash, received rave reviews both as a book and as India's first audiobook and has been translated into multiple languages. His second publication of verses, Lava, is still on the list of 10 bestsellers in Hindi. His books Talking Films and Talking Songs, have been hailed by film critics as the most definitive works on Indian Cinema. Akhtar is the architect of the Copyright Amendment Bill passed by both Houses of the Indian Parliament. He is considered one of India’s 50 most powerful people in a survey conducted by India today. Nasreen Munni Kabir is a London-based filmmaker and author who has written twenty books on Hindi cinema and made over 100 TV programmes for Channel 4 TV (UK), including Lata in Her Own Voice (1991), and The Inner and Outer World of Shah Rukh Khan (2005, Channel 4/Red Chillies). Former governor on the board of the British Film Institute, she continues to curate Channel 4 TV’s annual Indian film season. She is the author of Zakir Hussain: A Life in Music. Sanjoy K. Roy, an entrepreneur of the arts, is Managing Director of Teamwork Arts, which produces over 33 festivals in 42 cities and 17 countries, including the world’s largest literary gathering — the Jaipur Literature Festival and international editions of JLF. He is a founder-trustee of Salaam Baalak Trust, working to provide support services for street and working children in the inner city of Delhi where over 55,000 children have benefited from education, training and residential services. Roy is the Co-chair of the Art and Culture Committee of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and former President of Event and Entertainment Management Association. Roy has lectured at and works in collaboration with leading universities across the world.
