In this video, we are going to learn how to calculate corrected potassium (K+) in an ABG or blood gas. Arterial blood gas is an important investigation tool. A thorough knowledge on the analysis of ABG or blood gas is essential for the management of critically unwell patients. Sometimes ,carbon dioxide may be high as in respiratory acidosis. Sometimes, bicarbonate can be low as in metabolic acidosis. In emergency medicine, we encounter patients with respiratory system illness. While the partial pressure of gases in the blood gas eg PCO2, PO2 may be mastered, many struggle in analysis of electrolytes such as potassium. Similarly, in CVS or cardiology conditions, patients can be critically unwell. An analysis of ABG or blood gas may be of utmost importance. Many clinicians master the art of how to read abg or blood gas. However, they struggle in analysis of bicarbonate, potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium etc A gas transport is another imprtant concept which has been explained in my different video on How to interpret an ABG like a pro. In this lecture tutorial, we focused only on potassium correction. If you are interested in the comprehensive ABG or blood gas analysis, please watch my other videos. #ABG #blood gas #corrected potassium #DKA #critical Website: www.drbarai.weebly.com Twitter: @drbarai Email: [email protected]
