The end of this Chinese fighter! But how good exactly is the J-8 fighter jet and what can it do now?

J-20 fighter video collection,    • J-20 video you haven't seen before! L...   Today, I would like to talk to you about the Chinese J-8II fighter jet, which is currently in its last stage of serving in the Chinese Air Force. This aircraft has had an interesting career, including an incident where it collided with a US military EP-3E aircraft. The J-8II was designed and developed in the 1970s as an upgrade to the J-8, which was based on a scaled up design of the Soviet MiG-21. The J-8II was intended to address the shortcomings of the J-8, such as its limited range and poor maneuverability. The J-8II entered service in 1984 and was produced in large numbers. It is estimated that over 200 J-8II fighter jets were produced. Over the years, several variants of the J-8II have been developed. The J-8IIA variant, for example, was equipped with a more powerful engine, which improved its performance at high altitudes. The J-8D variant was designed for aerial refueling capability, equipped with a range of precision-guided munitions, including semi active radar guided missiles. The J-8IIM was developed as an export version of the J-8II. It was equipped with upgraded avionics, including a digital flight control system and a new radar, as well as improved engines. The J-8F and J-8H have better radars and are based on J-8D. A few key reconnaissance variants have been produced, such as the J-8R and J-8FR, they carry a photography and electronic equipment pod below the fuselage. Despite its upgrades, the J-8II is now in its last stage of service in the Chinese Air Force and is being replaced by more advanced fighter jets, such as the J-10 and the J-20. However, its legacy as a reliable and capable fighter jet will live on in China's military history. Despite its impending retirement, the J-8II is still a very useful high-speed fighter platform. For example, it can carry out reconnaissance missions, maximizing its top speed of Mach two. This allows it to quickly gather information in the field, making it a valuable asset in intelligence-gathering operations. Furthermore, the J-8II fleet has already been upgraded to use the latest Chinese air-to-air missiles, such as PL-12 active radar guidance missiles. This makes it a valuable asset in an air defense role, protecting China's airspace from potential threats. The PL-12 missile has a range of approximately 100km and can reach speeds of up to Mach 4, making it one of the most advanced missiles in China's arsenal. Its active radar guidance system allows it to track and target multiple aircraft simultaneously, making it a formidable weapon in air-to-air combat. One of the key advantages of the PL-12 missile is its ability to operate in electronic warfare environments. Its advanced seeker technology enables it to penetrate jamming signals and continue to track its target, even in the presence of heavy electronic interference. In addition, the J-8II can still act as a training platform for pilots. Its reliability and relatively low operating costs make it an excellent choice for training new pilots, allowing them to gain valuable experience before transitioning to more advanced fighter jets. The J-8II can also guard less critical airspace, such as the China and Russian border. While it may not be the most advanced fighter jet in the Chinese Air Force, it is still more than capable of performing this duty. Overall, the J-8II is steadily retiring from the Chinese Air Force, with a few models of much more powerful Chinese fighter jets taking its place. However, it is important to acknowledge the role that the J-8II has played in China's military history, as well as its continued usefulness in certain roles. In conclusion, the J-8II fighter jet may be nearing the end of its service life in the Chinese Air Force, but it still has much to offer in terms of its capabilities and its legacy. It is a testament to the engineering prowess of the Chinese Air Force and a reminder of the important role that fighter jets have played in modern warfare. Thank you for listening.
