Served originally as the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics Shuttle, it ran as the branch of Line 10, traveling horizontally between Beitucheng Station and Forest Park South Gate Station, connecting National Sports Center (The Bird Nest), National Aquatic Center, and Olympic Green. By that time, all rolling stocks on Line 8 were borrowed from Line 10 using the connection tunnel. Despite of its short length brought together with only 4 stops at the beginning, the line extends both inbound and outbound for several times since then: by the end of 2011, the line extended northbound, or to say, outbound, to East Huilong'guan Avenue, where giant communities are located at; by the end of 2012, the line extended inbound to Drum Tower Avenue, connecting the inner loop subway line, the Line 2; then by the end of 2013, the line extended both in and outbound, where the north'est' station connecting Changping Line at Zhuxinzhuang, while the south'est' station arriving at South Luogu Alley in downtown Beijing, serving multiple cultural and tourists sites; then by the end of 2018, the line extends one stop further inbound to National Art Museum, meanwhile opening a disconnected section in the south, from Zhushikou to the very south end of the city: Yinghai. Finally, by the end of year 2021, the middle section opened and connected the entire line, forming a 32.25-mile (51.6km) long vertical line, which almost overlaps with the 'Symmetric Axis Line' of Beijing City. As a result, while the sections further away from downtown mainly serve passengers traveling from and to home or living places, the downtown section mainly serve tourists to Beijing City for sight seeing. Its maximum daily ridership reached 8.2 million this April. Current trains of Line 8 are all made by CRRC Sifang. Equipped with 112 6-B-car trains, with a top speed of 50mph (80km/h), the line has a shortest train interval of 2.5 minutes, but a relatively low traveling speed. This video was filmed and made to celebrate the grand opening of the entire line, as well as the 15th anniversary of Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics. The front view was filmed thorough the creek between the low-opacity membrane of the railfan window. (The window was 100% clear before October 2021 until someone trespassed into the operator's cab, making the operating company blocking all railfan windows). Still, the video is not including the face of any staff, and direct filming of any passengers are avoided to the greatest extend.
