I shot this snare comparison with both high and medium tunings, using my Yamaha EAD10 (no effects, samples, or processing were used) so that I could see and hear the direct differences between these two snares. The S.L.P. G-Maple has a 13 ply maple shell, while the Orange County (OCDP) has 9 plies of maple, which contributes significantly to the differences in tone. Tama S.L.P. G-maple: Remo P77 Batter Evans Hazy 300 Reso OCDP Maple Ash: Stock heads on both sides The two drums sound quite similar, but the real difference is the amount of ring that is produced. Thicker plied snares have a drier, more focused tone, while thinner shells have a more open and less controlled tone, so it really becomes a matter of preference what you want out of a 13" snare drum. I hope this video helps anybody who is curious about the differences, enjoy! Feel free to subscribe if you like content like this and want to see more!
