This was our "Jig Thursday" selection from August 22, 2024. We know this tune as the Legacy jig. But one of its alt titles is The Tailor’s Wedding. There are words, too: Open the door for the fiddling tailorOpen the door for the tailoring fiddlerOpen the door for the fiddling tailorThe King's son-in-law is the tailoring fiddler. The tune was in Niel Gow’s 1788 tune collection, pretty much the way we play it (though he had it in D). Gow called it the Duchess of Hamilton’s Delight. Then the Tailor’s Wedding name showed up. That’s what Longford fiddler and piper Stephen Grier called it in his 1883 manuscript in Slide time. Twenty years later Francis O’Neill included the Tailor’s Wedding in his Music of Ireland, up in our key of G. -- We started this 'series' on a diff social media platform. We wanted to share a few of our favorite tunes, and record them in a minute (so we could share the whole thing). It's such a small little project. But it's been fun to blast through a few of our very favorite jigs. We're putting the vids up on YT, for folks who want an easier way to search for titles.
