In this episode of my series “Walks in Dorset”, I take a 6 mile circular walk from the village of Studland which is located about 3 miles North of Swanage & 9 miles South East (by car) from Wareham. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan. I parked my car at the National Trust car park at Studland (behind The Bankes Arms pub) and initally had a quick wander along the beach nearby (to the East). After making my way, Westwards, through the pretty village of Studland, I found myself on the southern edge of Godlingston Heath. My first main destination was the mysterious Agglestone Rock – 400/500 tonnes of sandstone rock in the midle of the heath – where there were some amazing views to enjoy. I then headed North across Godlingston heath and on to Studland Heath where I visited the beautiful “Little Sea” - a freshwater lake that is a mile long. Continuing on, I next visited the enchanting Bramble Bush Bay and then on to South Haven Point where I watched the Sandbanks Chain Ferry in action. At this point, I joined the South West Coast Path and followed the coast around Shell Bay and then on to Studland Bay where the beach was made up of wonderful golden sand. My final destination was The Bankes Arms back at Studland. Information Sources: Wikipedia, Dorset Churches, Historic England, British History Online & Dorset OPC.
