After having pulled off a few castings of insects within resin successfully, I decided to take on something a bit more complicated. I had found a dead carpenter ant and a moth (no insects were harmed in making this), both of which I intended to cast separately. However the moth wasnt really looking great and it would be a diffcult thing to spread out its feet and align its wings to make it appear lifelike and presentable. So I hit upon the idea of using it as a prey for the ant! I wanted to make it look like the ant was carrying the moth in its jaws, back to its nest, like it was foraging. To do that I had to stick the moth in position in the ant's jaws. However, with the ant being so fragile, I didnt really want to open its jaws and risk breaking it, so I decided to glue it together with a drop of resin. Here is how the casting happened and turned out.
