Vlog#326: Hiking the Top of the Giant Trail, Sleeping Giant Provincial Park, Thunder Bay, Ontario Top of the Giant is one of the best trails in Ontario for folks looking for a challenge with some amazing landscape views as a reward. From the trailhead, users start along the Kabeyun Trail which moves along the shoreline, and stops by a nice cove, and then connects to another trail that takes users along the Talus Lake Trail, which links to the Top of the Giant Trail. Of course, people come here from far and wide for the splits/fractures of rock in the cliffs overlooking the water, with some of the gaps being more than 900 feet deep! The trails throughout this hike are well-maintained, wide. However, the higher elevations of this route are not recommended for the faint of heart - since the ridge portions of trail skirt some massive drops and it can get quite scary for folks scared of heights. Once on top of the Giant, the trail takes you to scenic lookouts with spectacular views of Lake Superior. To get to this trail, hike the Kabeyun Trail past Tee Harbour to the Talus. The return distance from the Kabeyun trailhead is approximately 22 kilometres. Once on top of the Giant the trail takes hikers to scenic lookouts on both east and west sides of the peninsula with spectacular views of Lake Superior. This hike should only be started by those in good physical condition. Bring water, sturdy hiking boots, warm clothing and a first aid kit. The Kabeyun Trail portion is an old logging road. best to bike this portion if you have the ability too. If you do feel you can complete the Giant, Spend some time at Tee Harbour.
