Discover the excitement of Thunder Bay - the largest city in Northwestern Ontario, then take a deep breath and slow down as you travel onwards through a series of towns and communities that promise unforgettable adventure. Here are some of the incredible things we do in Thunder Bay in a day: Visited the Ouimet Canyon, a 100 metres (330 ft) deep, 150 metres (490 ft) wide and 2,000 metres (2.0km; 1.2mi) long. Offering an accessible walking trail, to see a panoramic views. Thunder Bay also is the heart of amethyst country, which found in quality and quantity along the north shore of Lake Superior. So, my daughter and I had too much fun in picking our own amethyst. Do you know that the second largest waterfall is also located in Thunder Bay, the Kakabeka Falls? It plunges 40 metres (131 ft) over sheer cliffs and some of the oldest fossils in the world. The Falls are accessible from a parking lot just within the Park entrance. We also had an inspirational stop at Terry Fox Monument which commemorates the man and his Marathon of Hope with a 9ft bronze statue on a granite base. The site located high above the Trans-Canada Highway also offers views of Lake Superior and the Sleeping Giant. Doing this in a day was a sure fun for our family! What else you have to do...
