Central Railroad of New Jersey 1000 was the first successful diesel-electric locomotive ever produced. It was built in cooperation of the American Locomotive Company, General Electric and Ingersoll-Rand in 1925. CNJ 1000 is a boxcab type switcher locomotive and has 300 horsepower under its belt. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Museum Rail Ops team has been working to bring 1000 back to its as-delivered look using gloss paint, a new headlamp and lots of other details. This was a cosmetic restoration, meaning 1000 is unable to run, and is just a display piece for now. However, that doesn’t mean 1000’s future isn’t bright. In this video, newly restored CNJ 1000 is the star of the show in the B&O’s tri-monthly turntable demonstration. We picked this event so you can see all four sides of the locomotive without obstruction. You can find more information on this locomotive at: http://www.borail.org/CNJ-No1000.aspx
