Camping right on the water, watching the sunset was exactly what I have been looking forward to when we started traveling full time in our Grand Design fifth wheel camper over 2 years ago. Shaefer Heard Campground is a waterfront facility on the southern shore of West Point Lake [extends 35 miles along the Chattahoochee River], which spans parts of Alabama and Georgia. This man-made lake has 525 miles of shoreline that provide excellent opportunities for fishing, camping, boating and other recreational activities. Campsites 67-72,74, 77-78, 91 and 92 have wooden decks. Tents are not allowed on these campsites as there is no graveled impact area available; campground is forested and overlooks the 25,900-acre lake CHECK-IN TIME is guaranteed for reservations after 4:00 p.m. CHECK-OUT TIME is 3:00 p.m. GATES are locked from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and will only be opened in emergencies.
