College Football Recruiting - Rising Juniors

Rising Juniors At this point, Elite players may have already received offers from certain schools and stacks of letters from others. They should be visiting college campuses while recruiters are visiting their high schools to conduct in-depth evaluations. By the time most Power 5 programs get into June, they have a pretty good idea of who are the top junior athletes. Of course, leaving some room for late bloomers. Their board for Rising Seniors is pretty much done with a large percentage of the senior class filled with verbal commits. So, at the end of the year, the top programs begin to focus on the rising junior class. By the Fall of your junior year, many of the top athletes are being heavily recruited and receiving verbal offers. They should be visiting college campuses while recruiters are visiting their high schools to conduct in-depth evaluations. One of the biggest mistakes made by unrecruited athletes, is to think that they’ll somehow get discovered now that they’re finally playing Varsity. Unfortunately, starting on Varsity doesn’t automatically mean you are getting recruited. You gotta ball out junior year and make sure you send coaches your highlights every 3-games throughout your season. Don't wait till the end of your season to send your recruiting video, you're better off developing a relationship with coaches through video updates of your athletic and academic progress. Remember, there is still room on the board where offers haven’t been accepted. If you have a big junior year, you may be able to get on that board. But prior to having your explosive year, you need to let coaches know who you are and what you can do. The less you’ve heard from coaches, the more schools you should be contacting and visiting. At this point, you can meet with coaches during your visits. View the course section on visits and make plans to schedule as many as possible. To prepare for your College Admission • You should take the SAT or ACT at the end of your sophomore year to see where you need improvement. Then enroll in an online prep course or hire a tutor. Ask college coaches for their school requirements to verify what score you need to be eligible. Take the admission test as many times as you need, until you hit your target. They will only send your best score to your school of choice. • Your two-year transcripts should help you streamline your school list based on your academic abilities. It makes no sense to include high academic FCS schools if your GPA is lower than a 3.0. But don’t get discouraged, you have two years to improve your GPA and test scores. • If you want to go on an official visit, you must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center. Also, continue to work with your school advisor to schedule your NCAA course requirements. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Educating Athletes is a non-profit program with an unprecedented youth enrichment and educational initiative for disadvantaged high school athletes that have the potential of earning athletic college scholarships and also face the growing challenge of opioids, concussions and other sports risks.
