COWBOYS, COPS & COMEDIES! Versatile Character Actor Mitch Ryan! More Memories! AWOW Exclusive!

R.I.P. The very talented actor and storyteller, Mitch Ryan (Jan 11, 1934-March 4, 2022) joined Rob Word for his last A WORD ON WESTERNS interview on January 18, 2021. It was via zoom and Mitch was gracious to share more memories of his long career as one of the most in demand actors in Hollywood. On the zoom, Mitch was eager to discuss his early years doing stage work and shooting New York based crime classics like THE NAKED CITY, N.Y.P.D. and the syndicated series BRENNER. Before moving from Louisville, KY, to NY and becoming a member of the famed Actor’s Studio, Mitch had met and befriended another Southern raised performer, Warren Oates. In two earlier AWOW episodes Mitch discussed his film debut in THUNDER ROAD, his friendship with Robert Mitchum and Lee Marvin and his westerns MONTE WALSH, HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER, THE HONKERS and HIGH CHAPARRAL. Plus, his drinking problem that got him fired from THE HUNTING PARTY. Here’s a link -    • Wild Mitch Ryan Interview about Lee M...   In this final conversation with producer/host Rob Word, Mitch talked about how he got his most memorable part as “The General” in the blockbuster, LETHAL WEAPON, with Mel Gibson for director Richard Donner, his role as the Wagon Master in the series THE CHISHOLMS, a run-in with a Ward Bond fan, and his sit-com classic DAHRMA AND GREG. Mitchell Ryan spent his life entertaining others, and his photograph and biography are included in Steve Carver’s book, “Western Portraits.” We are lucky that he shared more memories with all of us. Rest in Peace, Mitch. Thanks for the grand ride! Thanks for watching our show. Don’t forget to Subscribe and Share this episode of A WORD ON WESTERNS.
