WFIL 56 Philadelphia - FORMAT CHANGE - Country to Golden Oldies - September 2 1983. WFIL was one of the big powerhouse radio stations of the 1960s & 70s in Philadelphia. But in the 1970s, as listeners migrated to FM, WFIL was losing listeners. The station changed to Adult Contemporary, then Country, but they still could not attract listeners to the station. By September 1983, management decided to try something new, and flipped to oldies. This airchec features that flip from Country to Oldies.
