Madonna's classic - "Material Girl" - played on a 3-string electric mountain dulcimer by Sam Edelston. I love being able to play two or more parts at the same time, and this arrangement does just that -- including a mash-up against the bass line from "My Sharona" at the end. First verse begins at 0:40. Rockin' outro mashup begins at 2:08. Most people consider dulcimers a folk instrument, but they're great for a lot more than that. I do these videos to publicize this wonderful instrument, especially for non-traditional repertoire such as this. So, please, share this video to help spread the word. Dulcimer players: This arrangement uses 1+ and 8+ frets. The electronics are hooked up in 3 channels. Channel B (used for the first few bars and the main body of the song) is running through a Roland Cube with some chorus and delay. Channel A (used for the rest of the intro and the outro) is actually split into two separate chains. A1 runs through the octave pedal, overdrive, and chorus. A2 runs through distortion, auto-wah, and compressor-sustainer. A1 and A2 come together for some digital delay, and then a bit of reverb at the amp. The song was written by Peter Brown and Robert Rans, who are just as female as me. And thank you, Madonna, for introducing this fun song to the world 30 years ago this month!
