Feliz navidad! Two Spanish words that are well known to Filipinos. They mean "Merry Christmas." That's right, it's the Filipinos' favorite holiday. We are going to Tagum City to buy groceries and gifts for the neighborhood kids. People are in a hurry, you can feel the excitement and happiness. I am very happy, too. Grocery shopping is one of my favorite activities. I even wrote a list of necessary things in advance. At exactly 10 am, the Philippine national anthem is played throughout the mall. People stand up straight and fold their right hands on their chests as a sign of respect. There are beautiful baskets of fruit that look very appetizing. We often buy fruits and vegetables at the farmer's market. They are cheaper and fresher there. It is so interesting to see imported produce here. At the entrance of the mall, kids are selling Christmas gift bags. I bought some. The children will be happy if they get their presents in such colorful bags. When my husband lived in Russia, sometimes he would dress up as Santa Claus with his friends and give candy and gifts to the children. He is happy to continue this tradition here in the Philippines, but not as Santa Claus, but as the white neighbor. We also gave a gift to our neighbor Louie. The Christmas season makes Maco even more beautiful at night. A lighted tunnel decorated with hundreds of glowing stars leads to the municipality. Christmas can't be complete without a colorful Christmas tree. Downtown Mako has beautiful Christmas trees too. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, be happy and healthy.
