The Door-to-Door Bookstore by Carsten Sebastian Henn - Book With Me

Seventy-two-year-old Carl Kollhoff is a long-time bookseller who once worked full-time at the City Gate Bookshop. Now, his role has changed to a more unique task—he delivers carefully chosen books to his customers’ doorsteps after hours. Each delivery is personalized, with Carl handpicking the perfect story for each reader. Having never married and with no close family, Carl is a loner, and his life revolves around books and the bookshop. He considers his customers—many of whom are loners like him—as his friends and has formed a special bond with them, knowing each one's tastes and preferences by heart. One evening, during his usual rounds, Carl encounters nine-year-old Schascha, a spirited young girl who insists on joining him. She calls him "the book walker" and, despite his reluctance, accompanies him to visit his customers. Schascha quickly wins them over and even comes up with her own plan to help Carl’s customers, each of whom is silently grappling with their own struggles and loneliness. She believes that the right book can bring a little happiness to their lives. But when an unexpected event threatens Carl’s job, his quiet, book-filled world is thrown into uncertainty. Together, the old man and the girl in the yellow raincoat must find a way to restore Carl’s way of life and bring back the joy of reading to their small European town. What follows is a heartwarming story about bookshops, friendship, community, and the transformative power of books. Perfect for fans of A Man Called Ove and any book lover looking for a feel-good read.
