The CSX 911 Honoring Our 1st Responders Commemorative Unit - Erie, PA. While on a day trip to Erie, Pennsylvania back in January, we had some daylight left before we began our drive home. I spent about an hour or so at the Pittsburgh Street railroad crossing for Norfolk Southern and CSX in Millcreek Township. While I didn't catch any Norfolk Southern trains, I did catch a few CSX trains. While one train traveled west toward Ohio, a local made its way east at the same time. Then, to my surprise, the CSX 911 Honoring Our 1st Responders Heritage Unit made its way through Erie as the second locomotive on a quick moving eastbound intermodal. The CSXT-911 is a CSX locomotive built by General Electric. It is an ES44AC-H otherwise known as a GEVO. The locomotive was built in 2008 and was painted the current blue color with the boxcar logo as seen on the majority of CSX locomotives. It was repainted in 2019 to its bright red color with white stripe with program partners First Responders Children's Foundation & Operation Gratitude. It pays respect to our first responders was painted to remind everyone who sees it of the daily sacrifices made by the individuals who serve our nation and communities as well as their families. As the train approaches, I officially become a "foamer" as the slang is for railfans who get overly excited for a train. Keep in mind I didn't think I would see this locomotive after so much time had passed. It was a pleasant surprise. Enjoy.
