The Red Crayola's Soldier-Talk was a collaborative piece between members of Pere Ubu, Lora Logic and Mayo Thompson. Mayo Thompson is a musician and visual artist that formed the band Red Crayola in 1966. In the late '70s he began working with Rough Trade Records and produced releases by The Fall, the Raincoats, Stiff Little Fingers... etc - he'd later on produce Primal Scream and the Monochrome Set among others. On this LP Mr. Thompson realizes the dreams and visions he so meticulously penned down in the 1960s, soundscapes of angular guitars and plink-plonk soundin' drums, prowling and pouncing within crippling precision; his voice and sound is as abrasive as ever and the Red Crayol-ian tradition of predicting future genres fails to be discontinued: the saplings for math rock and post-rock are firmly planted on this record as much as their early releases.
