Red Krayola - God Bless the Red Krayola and All Who Sail With It (1968) [Full Album]

Recorded: 7 February - 8 March 1968 Label: International Artists Released: 1968 Genre: Experimental Rock God Bless might be history's very first post-punk/indie rock album. Hear how "Free Piece", "Night Song" and "Jewels of the Madonna" foreshadow no-wave. "Save the House" speaks of art-punk, and "Say Hello to Jamie Jones" predicts Faust-esque krautrock. Pay attention to the minimal wave of "Big" and indie pop of "Sherlock Holmes". Only to be left bemused by the stop-start, quiet-loud dynamic of proto-slacker rock track "Dairymaid's Lament". The whole album is like the "Pink Flag" of the 1960s. Truly one of the most innovative records of all time, and I hope you will see it as such too. Here Red Crayola alter their name to "Red Krayola" due to a cease & desist letter from the Crayola company. This upload is taken from a high quality CD rip of the 2011 Sonic Boom Remaster, as well as ripping from vinyl for "Free Piece" as the last few seconds are faded out in the 2011 remaster. This is probably the best quality on the net for this album, it no longer sounds "lo-fi" as many would wrongly classify it as, a lot of these tracks were actually recorded pretty crystal clear. It's just their variants on streaming services seem to sound like they were folded to mono or of lower quality. I advise you if you want to hear this album in all of its glory to buy the 2011 Charly CD reissue remastered by Peter Kember of Spacemen 3 A.K.A. Sonic Boom. I hope that some day the album will be remastered again, or remixed and we can get an even better CD issue with some outtakes as well as alternate takes. All previous reissues were dubbed from vinyl, so unless we get a vinyl re-release, the CD and the original 1968 issue will remain the best way to hear this album. Enjoy!
