Going traditional with Pothichoru / Mathi Fry with Kappa / Chef Pillai's Breakfast

I don't know if it was because i was bought up in Qatar, i wasn't a fan of Rice. But my mom used to prepare all kind of traditional recipes at home. After marraige, and being with a husband who just love and enjoy eating what we call " naadan " food, means pure kerala food, i started cooking all types of traditional and authentic dishes for him. Initially though it was to impress him, later i too got in love with naadan food. I can think of a day without eating rice. And if i do so, i feel incomplete. I don't have any childhood memory of having Pothichoru, but my husband do have a deep memory and he goes nostalgia over it. He took me to a restaurant when we were in Sharjah, to have pothichoru. I was infact hearing that name for the first time in my life at that point. And i loved the dish. Once my mother-n-law had prepared pothichoru and gave it to me while leaving for my MBA exam. And i got that real flavour of what it is in tasting a pothichoru from home. There's this secret ingredient of love which you cant get with the restaurant pothichoru. ============================= CHEF PILLAI'S BREAKFAST DISH Idiyappam : Roasted rice flour - 3 cups Hot water - 3.25 cup salt Coconut - 2 cup Warm water to get coconut milk - 1 cup Sugar - as per your taste Ripe plantain - 2 -3 steamed ----------------------------------------------------- KAPPA PUZHUKKU ( Tapioca dish ) Kappa/Tapioca - 1.5 kg cut in medium size Water & Turmeric powder - to cook the tapioca Coconut oil - 3 tbsp Mustard seeds - 1 tsp Shallots - 5 - 6 Green chillies - 5 - 6 Garlic - 4 - 5 Curry leaves Grated coconut - 1/2 - 1 cup salt DRY SHRIMPS CHUTNEY / CHAMMANTHI - Dry shrimps - 3/4 - 1 cup Grated coconut - 1 - 1.5 cup Shalllots - 4 - 5 Dry red chillies -4 - 5 Coconut oil - 2 tbsp Green chillies - 3 - 4 Salt SARDINES FRY Sardines - 4 - 5 large Rice flour - 2 tbsp Red chilly powder - 3 tsp Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp Black pepper powder - 1/4 tsp Tamarind pulp - 1/4 up or less Coconut oil - 2 -3 tbsp salt Ginger & garlic - 1 tbsp each chopped -------------------------------------------------- POTHICHORU Dal & Spinach :: Toor dal - 1/2 cup Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp Coriander powder - 1/2 tbsp Red chilly powder - 1/2 tsp salt Spinach - a bunch chopped Raw White rice - 1/2 tbsp Garlic - 4 - 5 chopped coconut oil - 2 tbsp Grated coconut - 1/2 cup Green chillies - 2 - 3 Shallots - 2 -3 Cumin seeds - 1/2 - 1 tsp Prawns fry:: Prawns - 1/4 kg Kashmiri red chilly powder - 2 .5 tsp Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp Black pepper powder - 1/4 tsp salt coconut oil - 3 tbsp Curry leaves Grated coconut - 2 - 3 tbsp Beans side dish ( Payar Mezhukupuratti ) Beans - 2 cups chopped Water - 1/4 cup salt Onion - 1 small chopped curry leaves red chilly flakes - 1 tbsp salt coconut oil - 2 tbsp OMLETTE : Eggs - 4 Onion - 1 small chopped Green chillies - 2 - 3 chopped salt black pepper oil Coconut Chutney ( Chammanthi) grated coconut - 1 cup Coconut oil - 2 tbsp Shallots - 4 - 5 Dried red chillies - 4 - 5 Curry leaves Tamarind - a small size salt ================================= Facebook Page -   / momtastic4easyworld   Instagram –   / momtasticbyshamsheera   Email – [email protected] Twitter -   / mshamsheera   ==================================== DISCLAIMER: This is not a sponsored or paid video.
