Kumily lies right on the Kerala-Tamilnadu border. Time was 6am, still dark when I got out of my car, lot of activity around though, freshened up and drove straight to Anavachal Parking, Thekkady. Lot of rush at the ticket counter, got the ticket without fuss though, things were very well organised. Loved four kilometer bus ride to the boat station at the edge of Periyar Lake. Filled the form, got the ticket and boarded the boat. Total charges incurred: Rs.740- Entry fee Periyar National Park (Rs.45-), Bus Ticket (Rs.40-), Car Parking (Rs.85-), Osmo Action camera fee (Rs.335-), Boat Ride ticket (Rs.255-). Loved the one and half hour boat ride on the placid Periyar lake, lot of chit chatting with fellow passengers, no wildlife sighting though. Drove to Elephant Camp and enjoyed the elephant ride (Rs.500-). Hundred or so kilometer drive on the beautiful road through the tea gardens to Kumarakom backwaters was a delight. Sun was about to set. Standing there at the edge of vast Vembanad lake, having driven 4800 kilometers solo from home, at the stroke of completion of 60 years on this beautiful planet Earth was like a dream, unforgettable…!!!
