NC500 on a YB100 DAY 6 - Signpost, Potholes, Castles and Guns !

Fat Man, Tiny Bike, Hits the NC500 ! NC500 on a YB100cc Day 6 - Well what a day. First treated to the delights of the Duncansby coastline with its spectacular wind and water eroded "stacks".....Duncansby Stacks. Then on to John O'Groats - the most northern village on the UK mainland - where I met up with several other "pilgrims" including Phil who had managed to shake off throat cancer and decided to head north on his Triumph Tiger 1200.....just because he CAN !! After John O'Groats moved on to The Castle of Mey - summer home of the Queen Mother, then on up to Dunnet Head which is actual northernmost point on the mainland. One of the more unusual people I met was Ross Haygarth - a rifle maker and collector of motorcycles amongst other things - brilliant guy. Should have taken him up on his offer of a cuppa! After passing through Thurso, the roads began to deteriorate as expected and soon I was on one lane roads and back in stunning scenery. The very far north between Thurso and John O'Groats is relatively flat and lacking in the interesting features I had come to see but I was in for a treat as I was contemplating driving south. The day finished at The Smoo Cave Hotel in Durness - very nice welcoming hotel with basic but excellent food ! 95 miles today ROUTE Wick - Durness https://goo.gl/maps/nL1JpuqdiVfjTWKH6 ‪@RobLittleuk‬ NC500 / Scottish North Coast 500 - a 500 mile loop from Inverness following the east, north and west coasts of Scotland!
