The ultimate goal of a punty is to be so clean that it requires no cold-working when done! A good punty is a mark of hand-blown, artisanal glass, and should not need to be removed. If torching is necessary to remove sharp edges, a good punty torches quickly and cleanly. A Punty (or Pontil or Punti) is a small amount of hot glass on the end of a steel rod that's typically attached to the bottom of an object—for example a cup—and reverses its axis so that the top can be opened.
