This Issue: English Vocalion Record No. X-9929 (Labelled as "The Riverside Dance Band") Matrix: M-0147 In August 1926, Vocalion produced their first electrically recorded discs. The system adopted; the so-called "Marconi Company's Process", was clearly inferior to the already established "Western Electric" system developed in The United States Of America. Using the newly developed "Marconi-Reisz" carbon microphone, the resulting recordings could sometimes have a shrill and unbalanced sound. The recording here is made by this process. judge for yourself, but it has been said by some that many of the last acoustic recordings by Vocalion were superior! Apologies for the harsh peaks in the first 15 seconds or so! (Likely wear, not a defect in the recording) Harry Bidgood (1898-1957) was an English composer and bandleader who was very popular in the 1920's and 1930's. As a pianist, director and arranger for Vocalion between 1925 and 1932, he and his band made literally hundreds of records for Vocalion and its afilliates and also broadcasted on radio. Recorded and processed from an original vintage 78 record by myself.
