Welcome to another history special, where I explore the ruins of Saffron Walden castle. Even though only the core of this old castle remains, Saffron Walden castle is still in a good state of preservation after 850 years. Built by Geoffrey de Mandville around 1141, and slighted in the reign of Henry II around 1157 and left to decay since. I enjoyed walking around Saffron Walden Castle, looking at what remains of this ruined castle in order to make this history special. There isn't too much to the history of Saffron Walden Castle, but what does remain adds to the heritage of Saffron Walden town.
