Abergavenny and the Canal Trail to Brecon Cycle Ride

A cycle ride along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal from Abergavenny to Brecon town with the start of autumn colours and mirror like surface in the water. I've been curious about cycling this section of the canal ever since I rode the trail from Newport to Abergavenny in a previous film. We pick up the trail not far off from where I came off last time, in fact it was just around where I sliced my leg on those pedals I had. The trail is nearly all traffic free with the exception of a short road section where the canal runs through Ashford Tunnel. There are some amazing views from Sugar Loaf mountain at the start through to Pen y Fan and Corn Du mountain peaks in Bannau Brycheiniog (previously Brecon Beacons) as the scenery changes as we progress. Pick a nice day to do this trail to fully appreciate it and if you want to avoid getting muddy ensure a good few days of dry weather for the trail to dry out. There are many walkers, runners and cyclists in various section to be aware of. I ran into some rain around half way both on the way and on the return journey, it's always worth taking a shower proof layer. The trail from Abergavenny is around 27 miles not including cycling around the town or from the station. As there is no longer a railway station in Brecon town it's worth being aware of the return journey, in all the ride was around 55 miles. I hope you enjoy this canal cycle ride.
