This is an overview of the Paul Tillich’s Theology of Culture covering 6 of the 15 essays. In chapter one, he explains why the theologian and secular scientist perspectives are both mistaken and in chapter two he explains why the ontological focus in philosophy of religion is the better route than the cosmological. In chapter 5 Tillich describes the difference between signs and symbols. In chapter 7 on existential philosophy Tillich relates the idea that ontology is ultimately based on finitude. In chapter 11 Tillich shares his thoughts on a theology of education and the problem of induction, or indoctrination. Lastly, in the conclusion, Tillich explains that in order for religion to be effective it must respond to existential questions.
