Here in Pennsylvania, at the moment, we are enjoying some of the nicest weather in this year so far, but this piece calls to mind (for me anyway) a rainy day. Erik Satie wrote his "Trois Gymnopedie" for solo piano. They are simple at first glance, but are deceptively difficult in terms of phrasing. The marking at the beginning, oddly enough, translates literally to "slowly and painfully," but I think it would more aptly be "slowly and with sadness."
