POSTCARDS OF WINDSOR ESSEX AND ONTARIO Today, we are featuring the lakeside village of Erieau, Ontario. This charming little gem is only a short drive from Windsor, Chatham Kent and London. While this peninsula boasts one of the warmer beaches in Lake Erie, it is just one reason to visit. Unlike provincial parks, there is no charge to visit and relax on the sandy beaches of Erieau. Molly and OJ' s Restaurant, Bayside Brewing Company, Lorettas Restaurant, The Cottage Cafe, The Sandbar and the Eau Buoy Grille are all great places to stop and grab a bit to eat or enjoy a beverage. Or if you prefer, grab an ice cream from Mariners Cone and Shake or Erieview Ice Cream. Rent a cottage for a day, week or month as many others have done for decades. Normally it's home to just under 500 residents but the summertime population swells as people visit for the Air BnB's, the bars & restaurants in addition to boating and fishing. Because of its unique location, fishing in Erieau was discovered on a commercial level in the 1870's and by 1892. The first train came to Erieau which prompted people to start buying up property in the area and the location has remained popular ever since. As we begin to wind down the summer, Erieau is the perfect spot for a day trip to grab some ice cream, or sit down at a waterfront restaurant.
