An excellent afternoon spent at Maidenhead station on the Great Western Mainline where we see plenty of services from Great Western Railway. The station on which I am filming from was actually built in 1871 but there was a station in Maidenhead which was opened in 1840 and actually served as the original terminus of the line until it was extended when a bridge over the River Thames was constructed to take the line further west. The original station lied to the East side of the Thames not a million miles away from where the Taplow station currently resides. In 1854 the Wycombe Railway Company built a line running from Maidenhead to High Wycombe, they to had a station built in Maidenhead and had to call it Maidenhead 'Wycombe Branch', but this was eventually renamed to Maidenhead Boyne Hill as the station was built on Castle Hill. But the actual station here didnt come into existence until 1871, the station having been built by a local contractor not Isambard Kingdom Brunel who had no input into this station. Eventually this station became the only one in Maidenhead having replaced the first one on the Thames and the Maidenhead Boyne Hill station. This station also starts the Marlow Branch Line. There was a canopy covering that part of the station until the electrification took place which meant that the canopy had to be removed. My next station is going to be Taplow.
