I was wrong, this Strat sounds great, I’m not changing a thing

Part of the downfall of being a tone chaser guitar geek is, sometimes we get into the little details maybe a little more than we should. But it’s all a learning and self training process. Had some second thoughts about my modified 2011/12-ish American Special Fender Stratocaster awhile back. My ear is so accustomed to a warmer, thicker midrange response I’d passed judgement against it after a gig and haven’t picked it up for a little while. Was thinking about changing pickups and other stuff. I have no idea what the stock pickups sounded like in this, because it wasn’t near stock when I bought it….the electronics had been messed with pretty extensively, and what little functioned appeared to be import ceramic stuff. I got it in the ballpark of what I generally tend to like with the David Allen “Dover” (ej-ish tone) pickups, but I made the big mistake of comparing it against my only other maple board strat instead of just appreciating it. An additional smaller error was, I also based alot of my feelings on one performance in a room that is really not my favorite for overall guitar acoustics and where amp positioning was not really optimized for me. This is one of those times I really need to step back and say: “Yep, it sounds like a good strat”, and concentrate on the music rather than the gear.
