Final Fantasy IV The After Years (Kain's Tale ~ Return of the Dragoon) - Dark Kain #2

#N/A Dark Kain Level: 35, HP: 12505 Strength: 90, Defense: 3 Magic: 0, Magic Def: 0 Weakness: Holy (I suspected as much, but wasn't able to confirm it until now) Vulnerable to: Slow, Sap Level 15 Holy Dragoon! Amazingly enough, this was my first try... For those who don't know: Kain's HP and MP level-up gains are different between forms, and for optimal growth you'll want to class change at Lv15, the level he joins at way back at the start of Ceodore's Tale. Before battle: Full moon. Equip the following on Kain beforehand (don't forget to revive and heal!): Any weapon/Ice Armor/Large Shield/Cross Helm/Bone Wrist (your best physical defense boosters; Dark Kain doesn't use magic so ignore Flame Shields etc.). Dragoon Lance is auto-equipped in the second battle (as in first time you see it) and should deal ~2000 damage per jump. If you're playing the PSP version and managed to get some Giant's Gloves to drop from Ceodore's challenge dungeon (keep beating up the Adamantite Golem and hope you get lucky; do NOT turn off the game or the RNG will start all over again; or otherwise beat up Steel Golems on B3F), equip those instead of the Bone Wrist. I was about to say back row, but I didn't realise that he defaults to the front when the other two leave temporarily @_@ oh well, guess it doesn't matter. First: Just heal and defend as needed. Second: Spider Silk him, haste yourself with Hermes Sandals, jump and heal as needed. You WILL need the speed alterations from both if you wish to keep up with the damage he inflicts. You shouldn't need Decoys, but they are there if you screw up. Forgot to show off his white magic because I was in a rush (and I am NOT doing this tale again, fun as it may be)... he has Cure, Cura, Teleport, Esuna, Hold, Haste and Blink. Take a look at those last two spells; he's worth using for them alone. I'm half-suspecting this would've been his spell-list in the original, if the plan to make him a magic user wasn't dropped halfway through development (a remnant of this remains in the base game in the form of his abnormally high spirit stat). [5:41] Broken and incomplete sentences should not be a difficult concept to understand, people! Yes, it's like this in the Japanese version as well, but the context makes it obvious he's pleading with the party to help Cecil and Golbez, NOT hinting at a potentially larger family tree. [5:48] Why does he look like a Latios? (Now that I think about it, the jet-dragon would fit Kain well in hypothetical crossovers.) So that would make the class change a permanent Mega Evolution? And the sudden lightflash a Luster Purge? (Then again, Latios has better things to do than spamming Luster Purge. Instead, spam Draco Meteor!) [5:48] Flippancy aside, that is a lovely outfit design (with the novel actually describing it as 眩い "dazzlingly beautiful"), and I'm so happy to see it in Dissidia NT. [6:02] That makes three holy knights in this world, counting Ceodore (who does have the qualities of a paladin, both combat-wise [white magic, can use holy equipment, prefers melee over long-range] and in personality; he's still young and learning, though). The novel's adaptation of this scene is quite a bit darker. After Dark Kain's villainous ranting, Ceodore charges into the fight (almost stupidly reckless, but I can't entirely fault him for trying...), but is quickly overpowered and has the life LITERALLY choked out of him (Dark Kain insulting him and gloating all the while), after which the real Kain intervenes (the battle is expanded upon, with extra dialogue and such, but I can't understand it...). Scans, but it's Japanese only: http://hyperion2009.tumblr.com/post/9...
