This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Empowering communities and entrusting them with resources is the steadiest way to social development and progress. Mr. Jahangir Tareen brings a rich and varied story of a career in the private and public sector. After teaching at the Department of Public Administration at the University of Punjab, Mr. Tareen joined Grindlays Bank, before entering agriculture and establishing JDW Sugar Mills. Mr. Tareen has served as the Chairman of Punjab Task Force on Agriculture, and later as the Minister of Industries, Production and Special Initiatives in August 2004. He is the chairman and principal sponsor of the Lodhran Pilot Project, and is an active part of the National Rural Support Programme and its Punjab counterpart. He has served as Director of the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund, and in 2010 he led the Tareen Education Programme, seeking to reform public schools in Lodhran. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
