Swami Vedanta Desikan [1268 - 1369] considered to be the Avatar (incarnation) of the Divine Bell of Lord Venkateshwara of Tirumalai was one of the brilliant Acharyas/ Stalwarts of Sri Vaishnava Siddhanta in the post Ramanuja period. Lord Krishna was born (Sri Jayanthi) on the Simha SraavaNa month (AavaNi) when Ashtami of Krishna Paksham is united with the Star Rohini. Swami Desikan has composed 20 verses in praise of him and praying that he should be blessed with thoughts exclusively about Lord Gopalan during his final moments (Anthima Smrithi) on this earth. Swami composed these twenty verses, when he was overcome by the beauty of the Archa Murthy of Sri Rajagopalan in the Divya Desam at Thiruvahindrapuram. The Sanskrit name for twenty is Vimsathi and hence these twenty verses in praise of Sri Gopala are celebrated as Sri Gopala Vimsathi. Here, it is presented in musical form, in the following ragams: 1) Kalyani 2) Saveri 3) Sahana 4) Sindu Bhairavi 5) Begada 6) Suddha Dhanyasi 7) Mohanam Swami Desikan assures that those who read and recite this Stotram will have the blessings and beautiful Dharshan of the Lord Sri Venugopalan.
