Jen talks us through some of the logistical challenges to ending food waste. Jen describes how she started a free food stand that solves some of these challenges and serves as a means by which to get unsold or unsellable (but still healthy) food from grocery stores and farmers into the hands of people who need it. As Jen shares, her model can be replicated across the country to make a serious dent in the waste problem, while helping to feed people living in urban food deserts. Jen Burns is the executive director and founder of Access to Excess, a food rescue non-profit in Dayton, Ohio. She advocates for food justice, food sovereignty, and access to fresh produce. For her work during the pandemic, she received the Food Champion 'Trailblazer' award at the 2020 Montgomery County Food Summit. In her free time she likes golfing, gardening, and foraging for mushrooms. Jen and her partner, Chuck, proudly live in Trotwood, Ohio with their four dogs. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
