Swimbait Review: Bull Shad Wakes

Swimbait Review: BOGO Bull Shads Today I've put together a 2 for 1 video for your enjoyment, the Bull Gill Wake and Bull Shadd Wake by Bull Shad Swimbaits . Both baits are 3 PC resin baits, featuring brush tails and rotating rear hook hangers. They both come in at approx 2.3 oz. The Bull Shad Wake was the rattling version. The Bull Gill Wake will produce a good sized wake on a slow steady retrieve, with an exaggerated swimming motion lead by a hard head knock. The resin segments also produce some noise as they make impact with one another, as well as throw a bit of water. At the slower speeds the bait stays very upright with minimal body roll. As speed is increased, the bait continues to stay on the surface, with a more aggressive, loud, and splashy presentation. As well, the bait picks up a bit of back and forth controlled body roll, adding the the aggressiveness of the swim. The Bull Shad Wake produces a similar wake to the Gill Wake on the slow straight retrieve, with the exception being that it is slightly more subtle and tight in its action. There is still plenty of head hunt and body swim, it's just toned down compared to the more aggressive Bull Gill. The major difference is seen when speed is added, as the Bull Shad Wake will dive slightly depending on rod position. I was able to get the bait down about 6-8 inches on a fast retrieve with rod tip down. The bait stayed true, and swam in a fluid but aggressive manner. Both Bull Shad variants can be thrown on a multitude of rods, including a Dobyns 795 or 806. The 806 will be your better distance cast option, while the 795 may be a better choice around cover where accuracy is key. I paired up the baits with 20 lb Copoly, and a Tranx/Curado 300. Braid or mono would both be fine choices as well. Hope you enjoyed this weeks review! See you next Sunday!
