Ezgi Tekin - Garuna

"Garuna" is an Armenian folk song compiled by musicologist, singer, composer, and priest Gomidas Vartabed. This recording I made at home has a beautiful story. Nearly one month ago, I went to a Gomidas-themed concert at Saint Voukolos Church (a small Greek Orthodox church in my hometown, Izmir) which I was so excited about. As audience, we were a bunch of people who somehow saw each other here and there, and I also knew the musicians. I kinda expected them to play this song but they didn't. I really enjoyed the music though. There was a nice acoustic piano at the church. After the concert, while everyone was outside hanging around, I made sure that the church was empty and walked to the piano. I started to play the first notes you heard. I played this song on stage before but that was a few years ago, and I have totally forgotten how I played at that time. I was literally making a new arrangement there. So the first notes were not that good. Then I noticed that one of my friends was recording me, while I was trying to figure it out. Then some other guy came and he recorded me too. Then I started to play decently and began to sing. People came inside. And lastly, musicians came. We played it together. Obviously, this is the arrangement I made at that moment. I only added the violins. I recorded this song at home, played all the instruments, and performed the vocals by myself.
