Today I’m sharing a water bath canning tutorial for beginners, or anyone who might need a re-fresh on the subject. * A note on altitude - All canning recipe times in published books are based on sea level. Depending on your altitude, you might need to add extra canning time. This is an important step to not neglect! Here is a link to an altitude chart: https://www.ballmasonjars.com/adjust-... Tools you need to get started: • A canning pot with a lid and rack - get one large enough for quart sized jars, as some are only big enough for pints. • Mason Jars with lids and rings - if using pre- loved canning jars, always check for chips or cracks on the rims. Those will not seal properly! • Canning tools: a jar lifter, lid lifter with magnet, canning funnel and a de-bubbling tool. You can find these as a set inexpensively. That’s basically it!! It is helpful to buy lots of: • Vinegar - regular and apple cider for pickles • Pickling Salt • Sugar • Extra lids • Mason Jars These items can sell out during the canning season. It’s a good idea to stock up, if you plan on doing lots of canning. I try to stock up out of season, little by little, so when the season hits, I’m good to go!
