TRADITIONAL Bengali INDIAN STREET FOOD Breakfast Tour of Decker Lane | Kolkata, India

🧳 SAM:    / backpackingtraveltv   🎥 WATCH: Indian Veg Food    • Indian Vegetarian Food TAKE OUT Editi...   👕 DAVID’S BEEN HERE SHIRTS & MERCH: https://teespring.com/stores/davids-b... When I first visited India in February of 2018, I learned first-hand why the food you can buy along the roadside in the country is often considered some of the best street food in the entire world. So when I went back ten months later, I made Indian street food my top priority and it did not disappoint! My travel buddy Sam from Samuel & Audrey and I ate our way through seven cities in eighteen days! Follow Anirban on Instagram:   / im_anirban   Our third day in Kolkata began with a morning street food tour of local and traditional breakfast foods in Decker Lane. Come along with us as we continue to explore the sights and flavors of West Bengal! My Film Making Kit ► https://kit.com/davidsbeenhere We kicked off our tour with some amazing chai (6 rupees), which was nice and frothy and had a lot of cardamom flavor. It was a great way to start our day! Our first food of the day was Luchi Ghugni (15 rupees), which is made up of a puri (called a Luchi here in Kolkata) and a moderately spicy curry made up of yellow peas, chickpeas, and potatoes. It was served with a cucumber-carrot salad to calm down the heat and a sweet tamarind chutney on the side. The luchi was very soft and doughy, unlike most puris, which are crispy. The heat from the curry and the sweetness from the chutney balanced each other nicely and the chickpeas were cooked perfectly! Our next dish was Dhokar Dalna (a dense bar made from fried, compressed lentils in a flavorful curry) with roti. The curry wasn’t spicy at all and the Dhokar Dalna was like a lentil stick! After trying them separately, I rolled the Dhokar Dalna inside a roti and made a taco out of it and it was amazing! Next up was Egg Toast (20 rupees), which is essentially a piece of toast that’s cooked into an omelet. The bread was puffy and slightly crispy, the egg was fluffy, and the green chilies in the egg added a nice pop of spice. This was my kind of breakfast! Between dishes, Sam and I got shaves and haircuts at a local shop and then went back to eating! Next, we stopped at Aaheli Xpress to have several foods, including the fish fry jumbo cutlet; a samosa stuffed with peas, cauliflower and potatoes; a banana flower chop; and mustard salad. The samosa was crunchy and the filling inside was absolutely delicious! It was savory and salty and the mustard sauce added a spicy kick. It was the best samosa I’ve ever had! The banana flower chop looks like a Cuban croqueta and tastes like one, too! It’s crunchy on the outside and nice and juicy on the inside. It’s packed with flavor and I could definitely taste the banana inside. The tomato ketchup I had it with wasn’t like a regular ketchup. It was hot! Next was the fish fry, which Anirban explained is like a Bengali take on English fish and chips. It’s a nice, flaky fish with a peppery and crispy breaded crust. It was fantastic with the spicy ketchup and mustard! This was an amazing breakfast food tour! Sam and I never would have known about Decker Lane if it hadn’t been for Anirban, so shout-out to him for bringing us to this amazing place!
