Here I share the first leg of my journey in growing out my grey hair. For a few years now, I was coloring my hair dark brown underneath and balayage blended in on top. Before, I was going to a colorist who did a more "natural" color, even though it wasn't really all that natural. One day, I couldn't see her and went to someone else who used traditional hair color. I got so sick. I felt like I had been poisoned and my kidneys were literally aching with pain. After that, I began to investigate more about all kinds of hair color. I found out that there is no such thing as "natural" hair color. Even the popular henna box dyes have other chemicals in them that are toxic to us. I realized that I needed a long term solution because I don't want to continue to poison myself. Luckily, a good friend of mine, who is a stylist, recommended the foil method for blending in the gray. I went to someone who specializes in this method and she used foils of highlights and lowlights to blur the line of grow out, and blend the gray tones in with the rest of my hair. This is a much better option, as the foils keep the dye off of my scalp directly. Now, I am about two months into this process and share my experience here. I also share some info about the particular chemicals used in traditional dyes, that are most toxic. The links below are only to the abstracts, but include the conclusions reached by each study.
